Software and SaaS
SaaS SEO, from somebody who runs a SaaS
I build and market software as well as consult on it. FixyFlow is mine: I write its pages, watch its Search Console, and live with the results, which is a different relationship to this work than reading about it.
Before you read the rest
That is the credibility claim and it has a limit attached. FixyFlow is a small product for small service businesses, not a venture-backed platform with a content team of eight. If you need a programme at that scale, I am the wrong shape.
What is different about software
The buyer is searching for a job to be done, not for you. They type the problem, or they type a competitor's name plus the word alternative. Pages built around your feature names reach almost nobody, because nobody knows your feature names.
Comparison and alternative queries convert far better than anything else and are usually left to affiliates, who will happily rank for your brand and send the traffic to whoever pays them most. Owning those pages yourself is dull, uncomfortable work and it pays.
The documentation is often the best-ranking part of a SaaS site and the least considered. It answers real questions in the user's language. Treating it as part of the search surface rather than as an afterthought is usually the cheapest win available.
The AI answer problem, which is now the main one
When somebody asks an assistant to recommend software, the answer is assembled from what other sites say about you, not from your own marketing. A product with no independent coverage does not get named, however good its landing page is.
That makes the work partly a publishing and outreach problem: being written about, being listed accurately, being described in the words a buyer would use. I do this for my own product, which is how I know how slow it is.
Measuring it matters too. It is possible to check which products get named for a given question, repeatedly, and to track whether yours starts appearing. Without that you are guessing.
What this search page looks like right now
I measured "saas seo consultant" in Canada on 2026-09-21, running it 3 times rather than once. Google wrote its own answer above the results on every run, which changes the job: the page has to be the kind of source an AI answer draws from, not just a page that ranks under it. The full measurement across eleven searches is here.

Other industries

Questions from software and saas
- Do you do product-led content?
- I do content that answers the buyer's question and mentions the product where it genuinely belongs. The version where every article ends in a pitch performs worse and ages badly.
- What size of company is this for?
- Founder-led and small team. If you have a head of growth and a content calendar already running, you probably need an extra pair of hands rather than my opinion.
- What does it cost?
- $499 for an audit, retainers from $750 a month, $2,500 for a full programme with paid search. Details here. The price does not change by industry.
