An SEO consultant for Edmonton businesses, working remotely

Edmonton is the one market of the five where no consultant's own website appears in the top ten. It is agencies, directories, a press release and a freelancing marketplace.

What the first page actually looks like

Measured with Google's location set to Edmonton on the date above. The top ten is agency pages, with Clutch's directory at three, a press release at eight announcing that an Edmonton SEO consultant has expanded services, and Upwork at ten.

No individual consultant's own site appears anywhere in it. The press release is the closest thing, and a press release is an advert somebody filed rather than a business you can read about.

That is worth pausing on, because the demand says Edmonton buyers want a person. The consultant and expert phrasings together carry about 1,600 searches a month here, ahead of Vancouver and comparable to Calgary.

What it means if you are hiring

If you want an individual rather than a firm, the first page will not find you one. Ask your industry association, ask businesses you admire who does their search work, and expect to look past the first page.

The first of the four people also ask questions here is literally who are some good SEO specialists in Edmonton. Google is being asked for a person and answering with firms.

Marketplace listings like Upwork solve a different problem: good for a defined task with a defined deliverable, poor for judgment work where the hardest part is deciding what not to do.

Working with an Edmonton business from Ontario

Two time zones, afternoon calls, everything remote. I have no office in Alberta and there is no Edmonton address on this site, because I do not have one. Putting a virtual office on a map is exactly the sort of shortcut that gets a Google Business Profile suspended.

What that costs you is the map pack on agency searches, which I am not competing in anyway. What it saves you is the overhead of a storefront you would be paying for through the invoice.

I have no Alberta client history to point at. What I can point at is published work with the method attached, which you can check before you spend anything.

Questions from Edmonton businesses

Do you have an office in Edmonton?
No. I work from Collingwood, Ontario, and I will not list an address I do not occupy. A virtual office used to win a map ranking is grounds for a Google Business Profile suspension, and it is the kind of shortcut that costs a client their listing rather than me my fee.
Can you get my business into the Edmonton map pack?
If your business has a real address or service area there, yes, that is ordinary local SEO work and I do it. If you are asking whether I can rank a business in Edmonton that has no presence in Edmonton, the answer is no, and anyone who says otherwise is describing fraud.
How do calls work across the time zones?
You are on Mountain time and I am on Eastern, so my afternoon is your late morning. There is a clean overlap every working day, and reports are written so they can be read without me on the line.
What does it cost?
The same as anywhere else: $499 for an audit, retainers from $750 a month, and a full programme with paid search at $2,500. The consulting page has what each one covers. I do not price by postcode.
